BE A GOOD LEADER AND ITS IMPORTANCE- By PATRICIA PERSIS EMMANUAL

WHAT IT IS TO BE A GOOD LEADER AND ITS IMPORTANCE-
By
PATRICIA PERSIS EMMANUAL
It’s important to demonstrate an original personal understanding of leadership concept and provide impressive illustrative examples taken from today’s real life or history. That’s the
best thing to do when reviewing various leadership qualities. All business owners and executives have varying experiences and perspectives on the approach and qualities necessary for
effective leadership. And not all situations require the same type of leadership style. Great leaders adapt to their surrounding environments and empower the team to succeed together.
Many experts across countless leadership books and articles agree on certain principles required for leading a team to greatness, but when it comes down to it, the most important factor is
whether or not the leader is getting the job done.
My philosophies on leadership have evolved over time through research, experiences in combat as a Navy SEAL and from my successes and failures running my own businesses. I believe that the
best leaders are passionate about developing the emerging leaders around them, they constantly work to improve their emotional intelligence and know that a strong team culture is the foundation
for accomplishing the mission. They are in a perpetual state of preparation and embrace the inevitable changes their businesses will face.
When we take an in-depth look at history, we see countless leadership qualities that were adopted by both good and bad leaders. When writing what are the qualities of a good leader, you
should focus on the characteristics and strengths of a leader, and how they help influence and motivate other people along with achieving their own goals.
These are emotional and behavioral characteristics of well-known leaders that helped them succeed:
1.Vision – effective leaders have exciting ideas, they usually are forward-looking, and have excellent strategic planning skills.
2.Communication – communicating ideas clearly and concisely is essential to ensure teamwork towards the same goal.
3.Integrity – they are honest and can always tell the truth in any situation.
4.Confidence – they dare to take risks to achieve their goals and never give up.
5.Responsiveness – good leaders value their team, listen to people they lead, and quickly change their behavior to match different situations.
6.Determination – good leaders are passionate about what they do and can motivate people by demonstrating their own commitment.
7.Empathy is the most important skill which allows to create strong bonds of trust and build successful teams.
8.Have Faith in Their Beliefs
"It's a mix of a lot of things, but first and foremost it's about having faith in your beliefs. You can't expect others to consider you a leader unless you have solid faith in your ideas.
And once it's there, you build on it by being a good communicator, listening to others, setting examples and by putting your best foot forward and not giving up. Leadership is all about being
passionate about what you do, and having confidence in yourself and your followers whom you have to motivate and inspire."
9.Make the Hard Choice
“Great leaders make the hard choice, and self-sacrifice in order to enhance the lives of others around them. As a business owner, not only does your family rely on you - so too, do the
families of those who work for you. Each employee has a family. Even if you're a small business owner with four employees, you're in essence potentially responsible for an additional ten or fifteen people.”
10.Earn the Respect of the Team
“Having the ability to show respect, empathy, and care to those that follow you, are all attributed to being a great leader. Earning respect is crucial to a successful relationship with
someone, while also showing that you care about their work or ideas. Being empathetic allows a leader to tap into the emotions of that individual in order to connect in a way that lets that
a person knows you understand what it means to be in their situation. Combining all three of these traits can definitely make someone a great leader.
11.Know the Team
"Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of every individual to effectively manage the outcome of a team is imperative for success. Leaders have a great vision and use the resources at hand
to solve problems. They take risks and make hard decisions, knowing they could sometimes be wrong. Those are the most important qualities of a real leader that work similarly in our professional
and personal lives."
12.Articulate a Clear Vision
“A great leader possess a clear vision, is courageous, has integrity, honesty, humility and clear focus. He or she is a strategic planner and believes in teamwork. Great leaders help people
reach their goals, are not afraid to hire people that might be better than them and take pride in the accomplishments of those they help along the way.”
13.Push People to Be Their Best
"Great leaders have clarity of purpose and are great at articulating their beliefs. I aspire to be the kind of leader that pushes people to be the very best they can be but still make
people feel safe because it starts with the heart."
14.Serve a Greater Cause
“Great leadership is determined by one’s periodical blend of personal humility and unparalleled will to lead others in service of a cause bigger than themselves. Great leaders are incredibly
ambitious, but never for themselves. Rather, they are ambitious for the company and possess the will do do whatever is necessary in service of this greater cause.”
15.Do Not Lead by Force
“A great leader does not lead by forcing people to follow. Instead, a great leader motivates people. They encourage others to follow them. They also lead by example, which few leaders do
today.”

The Magic of Time Management for Smart Managers

The Magic of Time Management for Smart Managers
How Time Mangement skills can be learned and enhanced?

Time management strategies help you handle work you’ve been assigned to within the time you have.Working as a manager, you may be assigned to a different number of tasks each iteration. You need to plan, manage and track your team’s work, too.
Meetings, estimations and planning, communication with clients and your team, reporting to the management. Ideally, you want to accomplish all that during your work day.
What is Time Management?
Generally speaking, time management is how we use the time we have to reach our goals or finish the tasks we’ve been assigned to efficiently.

1. Plan your work ahead
Knowing what you want to accomplish in a specified timeframe already sets you up for success. Planning your daily tasks may be as simple as creating a to-do list consisting of must-haves and want-to-haves. When planning for several projects, though, having a high-level project plan will improve visibility of requirements across different assignments, but also help to establish goals and requirements for each project.
2. Set clear priorities
Sometimes a list of things you need to do may seem overwhelming. To make it manageable, it’s better to divide your to-do list into smaller chunks. Setting clear priorities will help you order your tasks according to their importance, urgency and effort needed to accomplish them.To distinguish important and urgent tasks from your to-do list, you mayorganizing your tasks into four categories:
Important and urgent – these are the tasks you should do first
Important but not urgent – tasks you can schedule to do later
Not important but urgent – if possible, you may delegate these tasks
Not important and not urgent – you can skip tasks falling into this category
3. Focus on one task at a time
While some praise multitasking, it appears to make more harm than good.Doing several tasks at once is ineffective and inefficient. As human brain needs time to switch from one task to another, trying to do too many things create a lag time, when we’re actually not being as productive as we might want to be.Instead, try to focus on one task at a time and complete it, and after that switch to another one. This way, especially if you give yourself at least few minutes of rest between assignments, the transition is smooth and your brain is ready to take on a new task.
4. Minimize interruptions
Interruptions you need to get rid off may come from emails, calls, colleagues or chat conversations. It may be tempting to check your inbox every once in a while, get involved in an office small talk or hang out with your team on a chat. But truth is, it kills your productivity.Distractions are what drives us away from work. Minimize them and you’ll see how easier it is for you to focus on completing a task.
5. Set yourself shorter deadlines
if you have more time to finish a task than you actually need, the chances are you won’t do it any quicker. What you can do about that, is actually setting yourself shorter deadlines. If you will still struggle to force yourself to finish a task faster, ask someone from your team to review your work at a certain date, so you now have to do the work in order to show them results.
6. Learn to delegate
It’s actually advised to find the tasks you can delegate, so you can focus on more important and urgent ones.To spot available team members with skills needed for a specific task, use resource allocation tool. Delegating work you may actually show your employees that you value their input. Empower them to make decisions and, if needed, limit yourself to supervise them. This way you not only have less on your plate, but let your subordinates grow professionally, too.
7. Learn to say no
Knowing your limits when it comes to the amount of work you’re able to finish in a given timeframe is very important to not only deliver what you’ve committed to. It also helps to avoid work-related stress and, eventually, feeling burnt out.Saying no to your supervisor, manager or even boss may be intimidating, but there are ways to do it politely and assertively. As you don’t want to be viewed as the one who refuses to work, showing why you can’t take on more tasks or negotiating over deadlines may help you to reduce the number of new assignments.
8. Summarize each day
Keeping daily summaries of your work helps you to discover where you did well, and what remains to be done.At the end of each day, take a look at your list and check the tasks you’ve completed. Seeing what you’ve managed to accomplish is a great way to get motivated for the next day.If there are still unresolved tasks on your list, ask yourself why you haven’t finished them and find solutions to that. Maybe the task was to broad and dividing it into smaller assignments will help you better organize work.
