Motivation Reality and Theories
Motivation is an internal process that makes a person move toward a goal. Or it can be also said as the driving force that impels one to react.
An invisible moving force that impels a person to go beyond their limits. Motivation can be understood as 2 types: 
1. Intrinsic Motivation 
2. Extrinsic Motivation 
1. Intrinsic Motivation - Intrinsic motivation also known as internal motivation is the act of doing something without any obvious external rewards. You do it because it’s enjoyable and interesting, rather than because of an outside incentive or pressure to do it, such as a reward or deadline.
An example of intrinsic motivation would be reading a book because you enjoy reading and have an interest in the story or subject, rather than reading because you have to write a report on it to pass a class. Intrinsic motivation goals come from within and the outcomes satisfy your basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness.
2. Extrinsic motivation - Extrinsic motivation refers to external motivation. An example would be doing an activity to get an external reward in return. 
Extrinsic motivation goals are focused on an outcome and don’t satisfy your basic psychological needs. Goals involve external gains, such as money, fame, power, or avoiding consequences.

The above motivation types are the basic and can be said as the reality behind the motivation that gets any individual to perform a certain activity/ task. Let's understand a few motivation theories briefly 
There are various motivation theories. For better understanding, these can be classified as
Content theories
Process theories  
Some examples of Content theories are - Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Herzberg’s motivator/hygiene theory, ERG theory, Three needs theory.
Process theories - Adam’s Equity theory, Vroom’s expectancy theory, Goal – setting theory, Reinforcement theory 
All these theories help us understand the needs/ science/ psychology which motivates a person to do a certain activity/task
While theories help us to understand the needs/ science/ psychology which motivates a person to do a certain activity/task. It is the intrinsic/ extrinsic factors that actually motivate a person to do a certain task.
