It has come to our attention that scammers are preying on unsuspecting individuals through enticing offers, only to dupe them in a fraudulent scheme.
Recently, there have been reports of a scam where individuals were approached with the promise of earning money by writing restaurant reviews on Google. Unfortunately, what seemed like a legitimate opportunity turned out to be a trap.
Ruchi Kumar, for instance, shared his experience after filing a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. He was contacted by a woman via WhatsApp, offering him a chance to make easy money by rating restaurants on Google. Falling for the allure, he agreed and was subsequently added to a Telegram group where he was assigned tasks to write reviews.
Initially, participants were paid a nominal amount for each task. However, the plot thickened when they were asked to invest a significant sum of money with promises of high returns. Many, including Ruchi, fell victim to this trap, transferring substantial amounts in hopes of lucrative returns.
Om Prakash, one of the culprits, confessed to being part of a larger syndicate facilitated through Telegram groups. These groups, orchestrated by individuals like Vipul, lured victims with various job opportunities, ranging from liking YouTube videos to cryptocurrency trading. Victims were enticed with fake success stories and promises of wealth, only to be coerced into investing more and more.
This scam operates through WhatsApp and Telegram messages, targeting individuals with tempting offers and then manipulating them into investing money. Victims are then subjected to demands for penalty payments when they fail to meet the stringent requirements set by the fraudsters.

In another scam, scammers lured people into writing restaurant reviews on Google and then investing in a rating business – before they made their money.
Ruchi Kumar had filed a complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, stating that a woman had contacted him on WhatsApp on August 9.
“She offered him a chance to make money by rating restaurants on Google; The complainant agreed. On August 11, he was added to a group on Telegram and tasked with rating restaurants on Google,” the officer said.
Initially, Ashish was paid Rs 150 for each task.
After this they were asked to invest Rs 1,000 to get a return of Rs 1,300.
“An account was created for them in the name of a platform and they were asked to invest in the business.
Subsequently, the complainant was added to another group and asked to invest huge sums with assured returns,” the officer said.
After this the complainant got trapped and transferred more than Rs 23 lakh in the hope of good returns. “When he asked for his money, the accused told him that he would not be able to withdraw it without investing more.”
Om Prakash, one of the accused, revealed that he joined several Telegram groups where he came in contact with Vipul and another accused, who has not been arrested yet. “The fugitive ran a large syndicate that provided fraudulent accounts and had links with Chinese nationals operating overseas.”
The scam targets victims through WhatsApp and Telegram messages, offering them various job opportunities such as liking and subscribing to YouTube videos, writing Google reviews, hotel and travel reviews, and cryptocurrency trading. An official said that initially the victims get small amounts ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 1,000.
Once they join more, they are added to a larger Telegram group with more than 50 participants. In this group, they are asked to pay membership fees for tasks that promise high payouts. Fraudsters use fake screenshots of individuals who have allegedly made huge sums of money to lure victims. They then assign time-bound tasks, which victims often fail to complete.
